The 2017 hurricane season has had the highest number of major hurricanes since 2010, among the displaced, hundreds of animals were abandoned as Irma approached, leaving shelters like the Humane Society of St. Lucie County at full capacity. After the hurricane tore through their shelter the animals and people might have remained unscathed but the shelter was crippled.
Time to bust out the ticker tape and fanfare! The SPCAI team just surpassed 1,000 Operation Military Pets grants sent to military families in need. In just 4 years, this program has helped keep a thousand military families together and countless pets out of shelters.
