What Information Does SPCA International Gather?

SPCA International gathers two types of information about the site's users: non-personally identifiable information and personally identifiable information.

Non-personally identifiable information. As users access the site, SPCA International collects and aggregates information indicating, among other things, which pages were visited, the order in which they were visited, and which hyperlinks were employed. Collecting such information involves the logging of IP addresses, operating system, and browser software used by each visitor. Although such information is not personally identifiable, SPCA International may be able to determine from the IP address a visitor's Internet Service Provider and the geographic location of the user's point of connectivity.

The non-personally identifiable information collected helps in diagnosing any server problems, administering the site, identifying the most popular areas of the site, and determining the effectiveness of promotional activities.

Use of Cookies

We use cookies, small files that are sent to your Web browser and stored on your computer's hard drive, to improve our Web site's operation. The cookie is used to speed up your access to the site and the information you wish to see and the usage of services offered, but it does not contain any personal information. The majority of browsers accept cookies, but you browser should also give you options for preventing, accepting, or receiving notice of new cookies. Please be advised that if you block cookies, some site functionality may be lost. For information on how users can control their Web browser's acceptance of cookies, please refer to the documentation accompanying your browser.

Personally identifiable information. When registering or otherwise, you are required to provide personally identifiable information including, your name, date of birth, e-mail, phone, address, zip code where you live, and gender. This information is gathered so that SPCA International can verify the age of the entrant and for social networking and purposes related to this site.

SPCA International does not control the acts of this site's members or visitors. All members and visitors should be aware that their disclosure of personally identifiable information in a bulletin board, chat room, guest book, or other forum allows other parties to send them unsolicited e-mail. In the event visitors encounter any user on this site who is improperly collecting or using information provided by the site's members or visitors, please contact answers@spcai.org.

What About Children's Online Privacy?

SPCA International does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children (defined herein as minors younger than thirteen (13) years of age). SPCA International requests that all minors have their parents read the Privacy Policy, and the Terms of Use of the website.

How Does SPCA International Use Gathered Information?

Internal Use. If you do not make a service request or donation or otherwise identify yourself, we will have no personally identifiable information about you. We will only use aggregate information derived, in part, from your use of our Web site to improve our site and our service to you.

If you provide personal information, we may enter your name into our constituent database and contact you in order to: complete voluntary surveys seeking feedback for quality and service improvement purposes; supply you with information regarding our programs and services; request voluntary time or monetary contributions to SPCAI; and/or request your participation in any SPCAI research studies. We collect the e-mail addresses of those who communicate with us by e-mail. If your name is entered into the database, we may contact you as outlined above.

SPCA International encourages all third parties involved to adhere to this site's Privacy Policy and to otherwise handle personal information in a responsible manner. However, SPCA International cannot and does not assume any responsibility for any actions or omissions of third parties. Nevertheless, in the event users encounter any third party associated with, or who claims association with SPCA International, who is improperly collecting or using personal information, please contact answers@spcai.org who will forward the message to the third party. SPCA International will not release the user's personally identifiable information to third parties.

Use of non-personally identifiable information. SPCA International uses non-personally identifiable information in aggregate form to build higher quality, more useful online services by performing statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of the site visitors, and by measuring interests regarding specific areas of the site.

The site may contain links to other Internet Web sites, including other companies, charitable organizations, and other sites that may or may not be operated or associated with SPCA International. Unless otherwise explicitly stated, SPCA International is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites, including such sites' use of any information (such as IP number, browser type, or operating system) collected when visitors to the site click through links to those sites. Even though such information might not identify the user personally, users should be familiar with the privacy practices of those other sites.

Use of personally identifiable information. The personally identifiable information collected including the entrant's name, date of birth, e-mail address, phone, zip code of where they live, and gender, is gathered for the sole purpose of SPCA International to verify the age of the entrant and for social networking and purposes related to this site.

How do I "Opt-Out" from Receiving Promotional Communications or Services?

Individuals who provide personal information may choose to "opt out" of receiving various promotional materials and services. If the user decides to discontinue receiving promotional information and services from SPCA International, you can choose the "opt out" feature made available.

SPCA International is respectful of and limits its own e-mail contact and solicitations to those users who have not "opted out" of receiving such communications. The solicitations are limited in that they, among other things, will clearly indicate the originator of the e-mail and provide the user with a method of "opting out" of receiving future communications of a similar nature.

To Whom Does SPCA International Share and Disclose Information It Collects?

Except as otherwise described in this privacy statement, SPCA International will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that disclosure is necessary: (1) to comply with applicable law or to respond to a subpoena, court order, search warrant or other legal process received by SPCA International, whether or not a response is required by applicable law; (2) to protect or enforce our rights or the rights of a third party; (3) to protect the safety of members of the public and users of the service; or (4) to respond to an emergency. SPCA International also reserves the right to disclose personal information as necessary to enable third-party service providers to support and maintain the operation of SPCA.com and SPCA International's services. You will be notified via e-mail of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information. For more information see the "Changes in Our Privacy Policy" section below.
