U.S. military families all over the world are receiving permanent change of station orders which requires uprooting their families from one base to the next. Moving a pet to a new country is no easy task and is often a large financial burden. SPCA International developed Operation Military Pets to help military families in need stay together.
SPCA International and SOS Galgos are proud to announce that ground has been broken on a humane education center in Esplugues, Spain, dedicated to the plight of Spanish Greyhounds. This center is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. SOS Galgos has been working tirelessly for four years to secure the land, find an appropriate and affordable structure and obtain funding.
Our OBP: Worldwide team hit the ground sprinting in 2017, with many rescues currently underway all over the world. With the first rescue of 2017 completed, 3 lucky animals have arrived at their forever homes in the United States.
Cue the confetti and the fanfare; SPCA International sent its 800th Operation Military Pets grant to a military family in need this month. Over the last 3 years SPCA International has been proud to support military families all over the world through this unique and life-saving program.

On Sunday, August 21st when most of the U.S. media was still focused on the transgressions of a U.S. Olympic swimmer, another U.S. Olympian met up with SPCA International partners in Rio de Janeiro to tour the local public animal shelter and raise awareness about the hundreds of dogs and cats there who are longing for a better life.
