Their Work

Helping Hands Humane Society is an open-admission animal shelter serving Northeast Kansas. Animals in their care include strays found by Animal Control and the public, Shawnee County and City of Topeka court hold and protective custody cases, and pets surrendered by owners facing difficult circumstances. Helping Hands Humane Society’s mission is to go above and beyond simply providing housing for animals with nowhere else to go – they accept responsibility for each animal’s wellbeing and seek to end pet homelessness while improving the lives of pets and their owners in their community. Helping Hands Humane Society provides medical and behavioral intervention, spay/neuter, enrichment, a foster and rescue program, return-to-home efforts, and a robust adoption program for pets in their care. For families with pets in the community, they provide resources and information such as a pet food pantry, low-cost clinic services, pet-friendly events, and a pet loss support group.

SPCA International is proud to support the work of the Helping Hands Humane Society and hopes that with our assistance, they will be able to serve the animals in their community better.
