Their Work

In light of the recent devastating floods in Thailand, large scale evacuations of people are currently occurring in the worst affected areas of the Bangkok area. Pet owners are forced to leave their animals behind in their houses, many on top of roofs and buildings to protect them from the flood but with no food or water. In addition, Bangkok is home to tens of thousands of street dogs and cats that rely on the local urban environment to survive. With flood waters reaching up to 2 meters depth north of Bangkok, these animals have nowhere to turn.

The situation is even worse for those dogs at puppy farms and animals of all sorts in shelters who have been abandoned only to drown in their own cages or left hungry with no means to find food on their own.

Soi Dog Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization in Thailand with roots in the United States, Australia, France and Holland. Run mainly by volunteers, Soi Dog Foundation is dedicated to eliminating the suffering of stray dogs and cats in Thailand through surgical and humane sterilization, as an alternative to some of the painful and barbaric practices commonly used. They vet the sick and injured and find suitable placements in foster care and forever homes; as well as, educating the public about the ways in which the problems of suffering could be solved through their programs and awareness.

Soi Dog is presently working around the clock with groups of volunteers and small agencies in the Bangkok area to rescue these animals. Dedicated animal lovers have been going out on boats, and sightings of hundreds of dogs swimming for their lives, many of them drowning from exhaustion and hunger have been reported. Funding for these helpless animals is crucial at this time in order for their mission to continue, before it’s too late. Donations are urgently needed for cages, food, transportation, medicine, temporary shelter and of course veterinary help.
