Their Work

Pets of Aguirre Welfare Shelter (PAWS) is a non-profit animal welfare organization that provides essential services to the dog and cat populations in and around Quepos, Costa Rica. Every year, PAWS rescues and sterilizes hundreds of cats and dogs. To make sterilization services accessible and affordable, this all-volunteer team partners with local veterinarians to offer low-cost spay-neuter services to pet owners in the community. They also promote animal welfare education in both classrooms and the community and are at the front lines advocating for new laws against animal mistreatment and abuse.

SPCA International recognizes the outstanding work that PAWS is accomplishing to care for the animals in Costa Rica. We are proud to support their efforts to expand their trap-neuter-release (TNR) campaigns to control the stray animal population in the area and improve the overall well-being of animals.
