Lilian Queiroz and Cristina Palmer founded Oito Vidas in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Focusing mainly on cats they aim to bring education and much needed care to animals living on the streets of Rio.

"Community Animals", defined as animals who live on the streets,  and are cared for the communities are protected by law in the city of Rio de Janeiro.  Even though these animals are protected by law, they do not always receive the care they need.  Oito Vidas has worked with local business and communities to implement TNR programs and help these animals receive veterinary care and sterilization, besides promoting adoption and permanent care for the colonies at the place where they are located. Since many of these cats have lived their lives in these colonies they are not always able to be placed in homes. However, when assessing colonies Oito Vidas identifies any young, docile animals that would thrive in an adoptive home or would be at risk if they stayed in their respective colonies.

SPCA International is proud to partner with Oito Vidas to promote responsible adoption and sterilization during the Olympics and in the future.
