Their Work

Founded in 2000, the mission of Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society (LAWCS) is to create a caring and socially responsible environment, where animals and people live in harmony. At the time of their conception, LAWCS was considered a revolutionary initiative, because the concept of animal welfare in Liberia is still a new phenomenon.

LAWCS strives to prevent cruelty to animals, to awaken interest and compassion for animals, promote a vegetarian lifestyle, and engage the public and spread knowledge concerning animals and the environment. Their volunteer-driven team conducts regular rabies vaccine clinics in rural Liberia, where they also provide veterinary care to help improve the welfare and health of both the pets and the people in the community. LAWCS also operates a humane education program, which was able to provide opportunities for over 2,000 children in 42 schools to discover their innate love and passion for animals.

SPCA International is proud to support Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society as they continue to help improve the health and wellbeing of animals, their community, and the environment.
