Fighting for the Dogs of Morocco

Right now, thousands of stray dogs in Morocco are in danger.

As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, reports continue to emerge of stray dogs being rounded up and killed in an effort to “clean up” cities ahead of the tournament. These dogs are innocent animals who have no voice and no way to protect themselves. That is why we must speak up for them.

At SPCA International, we believe the World Cup should represent unity, celebration, and sportsmanship, not suffering and cruelty. As long as FIFA continues allowing Morocco to host the 2030 World Cup without demanding an end to these killings, the event risks becoming linked to the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives.

But together, we are fighting back.

Thousands Have Already Taken Action. You Can Take Action Too!

One of the biggest ways supporters are helping right now is through our petition calling on both the Moroccan government and FIFA to stop the killings and support humane solutions instead.

Already, more than 6,000 people from around the world have signed the petition to show that they care about the dogs of Morocco and refuse to stay silent.

Every signature sends a powerful message: people are watching, and the world does not accept cruelty as part of preparing for a global sporting event.

If you have not signed yet, we encourage you to add your voice today and stand with the dogs who cannot speak for themselves. Sign the petition today!

There Is a Humane Alternative

There is a humane and effective alternative to dog culling: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

TNR programs work by humanely trapping stray dogs, sterilizing and vaccinating them, and then returning them to their communities. Over time, this safely and humanely reduces stray populations while also improving public health and animal welfare.

Around the world, TNR has proven to be far more effective than mass killings. Compassionate solutions exist, and they work.

The dogs of Morocco deserve protection, not violence.

Raising Our Voices in Vancouver

Last month, SPCA International proudly joined fellow animal welfare organizations and advocates in Vancouver to demand change.

Alongside IDA, Lady Freethinker, Stray Dog Support, IAWPC, and The Save Movement, we gathered with passionate activists and volunteers outside the 76th FIFA Congress to call for an end to the killings of stray dogs in Morocco.

Our goal was simple: make sure FIFA sees that the world is paying attention.

Together, we raised our voices for the dogs who cannot defend themselves. We spoke with supporters, held signs, shared information, and helped shine a spotlight on the cruelty taking place behind the scenes of World Cup preparations.

Most importantly, members of FIFA saw us there.

We wanted them to understand that by refusing to stand up for these animals and demand change from Morocco, they are allowing the killings to continue.

Continuing the Fight in Los Angeles

Our advocacy did not stop there.

Earlier this month, we also gathered in Los Angeles outside the USA vs. Paraguay World Cup game to continue raising awareness about what is happening to stray dogs in Morocco.

Supporters came together once again to educate soccer fans, speak out for the animals, and remind the public that these dogs matter.

Every protest, every petition signature, every conversation, and every shared post helps build pressure for change.

We Will Not Stop Speaking Up

Animals cannot speak for themselves. They cannot ask the world for help.

That responsibility belongs to all of us.

The World Cup should be remembered for bringing people together, not for the suffering of innocent animals.

We refuse to let these dogs be forgotten, and we will continue raising our voices until the dogs of Morocco are safe.
