The Velvet Hearts Foundation was formed in early 2015 when it’s founder, Miglena Dzhurova, saw the need for a shelter in her impoverished region of Bulgaria. Velvets Hearts Foundation is the first animal shelter to be established in the Veliko Tarnovo district of Bulgaria.
When first incorporated Miglena was sheltering 17 terribly abused dogs and several litters of puppies in her small country home. Focused on not only finding adoptive homes for the animals she cares for but also bringing humane education and spay/neuter services to the people and animals of her district. Velvet Hearts has plans to move to a larger facility that will allow them to not only house more animals but also establish an on-site surgery suite.
SPCA International is proud to support Velvet Hearts Foundation as they continue to bring spay/neuter services to their district and provide a safe haven for the abused and abandoned animals of Bulgaria.
