Protecting Companion Animals from Poisons and Other Harmful Substances in the Environment


If you suspect your companion animal has ingested something poisonous or harmful:
  1. Remain calm
  2. Gather details, including:
    • what was ingested
    • quantity ingested
    • when ingested
  3. Contact your veterinarian or a poison-control hotline. A list of many top animal poison control hotlines is available below.
  4. Take your animal to a veterinarian if advised.
