Stay-Healthy Tips for You and Your Dog

Just like people, dogs need regular exercise and stimulation to keep them in tip-top shape, both physically and mentally. And since dogs crave human companionship, then who better to choose as your exercise partner than your pooch?  Frequent activity positively impacts your dog’s health in many ways, benefiting his muscles, bones, digestion, sleep, circulation, and general attitude. The bond between canine and human also encourages humans to exercise more frequently and lose more weight than most nationally known diet plans.

Managing Your Dog’s Holiday-time Stress

What Is Your Dog Learning Today?

Compared to our hectic schedules, our dogs have very little to do or think about every day. Often, our dogs are simply observing the activity around them. They watch us, study us, and learn from us. Our dogs, therefore, become experts in understanding our behavior patterns.  We are creatures of habit so we have routines that we follow, and our dogs learn these routines, usually very quickly.

If you are expecting a baby and you have a dog, take time now to prepare your dog for the day you bring home your new child.  Dogs can feel rejected and become confused or stressed when parents suddenly shift their attention from dog to baby.  In trying to regain his pack position, the dog may seek attention through behaviors such as barking at the baby’s cries, jumping up, or chewing on baby’s things.

Dogs aren’t born aggressive – but when aggression occurs, especially toward humans, the problem must be dealt with immediately. For both safety and liability reasons, aggression is among the most serious issues dog training professionals are asked to address.

Selecting the Right Dog for Your Family

A dog’s breed and temperament, combined with your lifestyle and personality, all play an important role in determining what kind of dog is the best fit for you. For instance, a slight or shy person could find a large-breed dog—especially one that is boisterous or hyperactive—difficult to control. On the other hand, a timid, little dog may not be a suitable match for an adventuresome, outgoing, or loud person.

In the spirit of the coming season, we’ve compiled our Top 10 Holiday Tips to help keep dogs and their families safe and happy during the holidays.
