Animal Lover and College Bound?
College brings big changes to a student’s life. It’s understandable that they will miss their parents, even though some will not openly admit it. However, many students also have a hard time being away from the family dog or cat, which they are quick to reveal to someone who is missing their companion animal too.
Make Your Yard Wildlife Friendly
At summer’s peak, the climate across most of the northern hemisphere is hot. The high temperature dries up many of the usually accessible sources of food and water that birds and other wildlife are accustomed to eating. These animals often have to work harder or travel greater distances to forage for something to eat.
5 Needy Animal Organizations Awarded Grants
SPCA International awarded five grants this month to needy, grassroots animal welfare organizations in conjunction with our participation in the 11th annual Broadway Barks held in New York City and founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore. These grants will go a long way in helping each rescue group survive these tough economic times and continue their vital life-saving work. Take a moment to learn about these special organizations and the great work they are accomplishing. We know their stories of dedication and success will inspire you.
Simsim the feline gate guard in Iraq
As we flip the pages on the calendar to a new year, SPCA International is continuing to surge ahead with Operation Baghdad Pups. We are responding to continual requests to help men and women serving in Iraq bring their dogs and cats home from the war zone. With a new President about to enter the White House and U.S. troops presence in Iraq ratcheting down, there is an increasing urgency to get these dogs and cats to their new homes before it is too late.

The Iraq government is running an inhumane campaign to combat the stray animal problem in Baghdad. These drastic actions are being taken in response to a local public outcry for officials to do something about stray packs of dogs that can cause human health and safety problems in the county’s capitol.
