Their Work

“SOS Animals Gyvunai” is a non-governmental organization, established on February 1, 2008, and was initially named “Pifas.lt” in honor of the shelter’s director Ilona Mezenceva’s first pet Pifas.

The idea to help homeless animals was born in 2006. In order to make it a reality, the volunteers at SOS Gyvunai in Lithuania had to sacrifice many waking hours and own comforts because the amount of homeless animals that needed their help grew larger every day. They simply could not look away and leave them in their suffering.

Now an established working shelter, their goals are simple but vast. To provide care for homeless animals, and to give them shelter, food and veterinary care until loving new homes can be found. SOS Animals also works in collaboration with other organizations and individuals fighting the same battle. They have educational systems in place to teach the public about the welfare and well being of animals.

SOS Gyvunai continuously strives to reduce the animal overpopulation and abundance of strays by implementing spaying and neutering programs and clinics, but they can’t do it alone. They are completely dependent on donations, and with your support, their work and similar shelters around the globe will continue to be a voice for the unwanted animal population.
