Story:

Wobbles is a cat that had special reasons to need the help of Operation Baghdad Pups and the friends she made while living in Iraq. She was born in November 2007, on the compound of a private U.S. security firm in Baghdad, Iraq. Discovered under a trailer by one of the security company employees, she and her only other surviving littermate were in bad shape. Without immediate attention the helpless kittens would surely have died. The extremely malnourished and scraggly brother and sister were taken indoors so they could be fed and cleaned up. It was not long before it became clear that both kittens also suffered from some sort of neurological disorder, making it difficult for them to walk. The odds were definitely stacked against them but no one was willing to give up on trying to save them.

The kittens were handed over to the company medic, in hopes he could save these fragile lives. With no veterinarian available, he was their best chance for surviving and he did all he could to keep them alive. Unfortunately, about a month later Wobbles’ brother died, leaving everyone who had grown attached to the little guy extremely upset. Great care was given to protect Wobbles and eventually her caregiver found a way to have her seen by a veterinarian and receive proper veterinary care. In spite of her limitations, Wobbles eventually learned how to get around and even started to play with makeshift toys that were made for her. Everyone was amazed by her determination to overcome obstacles and become as normal a cat as possible.

When Wobbles’ primary caregiver had to leave Iraq unexpectantly, he was heartbroken having to leave his feline friend behind. Thankfully another one of the employees agreed to take over the care of Wobbles. The growing kitten was still quite thin and very hesitant on her feet but her new “mom” put a great deal of time and love into helping Wobbles. Goodies from American began to arrive when word spread about the amazing survivor, including healthy food, brightly colored toys and a comfortable bed. With all the love poured forth for this kitten, she began to thrive.

Life for a normal cat is incredibly tough in Iraq. For one with a handicap, there is little hope of lasting for long. Thankfully, there were some kind hearted souls who realized this and made the decision not to give up on Wobbles. For this reason, she is now alive and living with her new family in America. She still cannot walk a straight line but that has not stopped her from exploring this wonderful new world she now calls home.
