Story:
She jumped through an open window at the security forces armory in Kirkuk, Iraq one evening. Exuding confidence, she proceeded to march through the building to a couch where she made herself at home and slept the rest of the night. This young tabby mix repeated the routine every day around sundown. And then, when the sun rose, she would jump back out the window and disappear for 12 hours.
While his unit initially referred to her as the heartbreaker, Al Uebel and the other soldiers who worked in the armory began to look forward to Miss Kitty’s nightly visit. She obviously was well-cared for, but they began to feed her anyway. They wondered if maybe another unit also had befriended her and when it came time to redeploy they left her behind.
After several months Al decided that this kitty was not one to leave behind. Al contacted SPCA International to make arrangements to get Miss Kitty to the states; all of his efforts conducted under the radar of the unit command. He shared pictures regularly that showed Miss Kitty hanging out with the guys and loving all the attention. After she arrived at her new home in Minnesota, it was discovered that Miss Kitty was pregnant. The veterinarian decided it was too risky to let Miss Kitty have kittens because she had a serious heart murmur. Al definitely saved Miss Kitty’s life by falling in love with the Iraqi heartbreaker.
