Updates:
Kujo arrived in Tampa just days after landing in the United States. He is living with Matt’s parents and his girlfriend. They say Kujo is adjusting well and cannot get enough of the green grass.
Story:
Matt, a U.S. Marine serving in Iraq, and his unit came across two puppies in the street while on patrol one day. One had been shot and was lying dead, the other who seemed to be a liter mate, was just wandering aimlessly around the other. The puppy was no more than 2 or 3 weeks old. Matt could not leave the little guy to fend for himself after they saw what had happened to his brother, so the Marines brought the puppy back to their base. They named him Kujo after the dog featured in the Steven King novel, Cujo.
Matt made a little bed for Kujo and tried to bathe him as much as he could. The Marines potty trained him quickly and soon enough Kujo was one of the guys. Kujo was a bright dog and they played with him non-stop. When one of the guys would have a bad day, they would go find Kujo and he would help them forget all about it.
Matt’s girlfriend was the first to contact SPCA International about getting Kujo home. She says, “Matt, along with his family and myself, is very grateful to SPCA International for helping us making Matt’s wish come true. We never thought it would be possible to bring Kujo back to the States. SPCA International is an amazing group of people working together for a great cause. We could not be more thankful for everything that they have done for us!”
“I know that Matt couldn't be more excited to get Kujo home. I will never truly know how much Kujo really means to Matt, but I know that I have never seen him go through this much trouble for a dog. It's important to him that he's brought home because the other Marines were leaving and there would have been no one to care for him after he left. Knowing that Kujo is now in the states, safe and sound, makes him feel very happy.”
Kujo will travel to Tampa, FL, to live with her until they can all be reunited when Matt returns from the war.
