Logistics

SPCA International wants to ensure the safe travel and humane care of the animals that embark from the harsh deserts of the Middle East on a life-changing journey to the U.S. as part of Operation Baghdad Pups.  The logistics required to rescue the mascots and companion animals of U.S. military personnel in the Middle East involve the extensive and diligent coordination of our resources and expertise. Your generous contributions will help SPCA International bring the dogs and cats of our brave service members to a safe, happy, forever home in the U.S.

In coordination with the service member who wishes to bring a dog or cat home from the Middle East, the following steps are required to complete the clearance and transport process:

Initial request submitted
Application and detailed information about Operation Baghdad Pups sent to service member
Completed application is returned
Staff confirms the animal meets the Operation Baghdad Pups criteria
Coordination of required vaccinations begins
Coordination of  international travel paperwork begins
Coordination of supplies, including an airline crate, begins
Communication with the requestor continues
Security company is contacted to coordinate pick up and transport of animal to airport
International flights are coordinated and scheduled
Coordination with the Centers for Disease Control arranged prior to animal entering the U.S.
Plans are finalized with the requestor
Operation Baghdad Pups team flies to the Middle East
Security company picks up animal and delivers it to the airport
Security company transfers animal custody to the Operation Baghdad Pups team
Operation Baghdad Pups team flies with animal to the U.S.
Animal examined by veterinarian
Animal receives domestic travel paperwork
Animal given minimum of 48 hours to rest before flying to final destination within the U.S.
Coordination of domestic flight with the family of requestor
Animal arrives at new home
Mission complete!
