Bunny Ambassadors in Iraq
On the eve of the withdrawal of all U.S. combat troops from Iraq, SPCA International staff person, Terri Crisp, finds some extremely unusually furry community ambassadors living in the front yard of a local police station in Erbil, Iraq: bunny rabbits.
“Are they being raised for food?”
“Who is protecting them from their local predators?”
“Why is someone feeding them potato chips?”

Iraq's Slumdog Massacre: One Million Dogs Face Death
Mother Jones magazine reports on the dog killing in Iraq and what SPCA International is trying to do about it. "Amid its struggles with Sunni jihadists, Shiite radicals, and Kurdish separatists, the Iraqi government is training its sights on a new enemy: dogs. According to the UK's Daily Mail, Iraq is spending 35 million dinars—about $30,000—to send 20 shotgun-wielding squads out to hunt down the capital's strays..."

Meet Toby, one lucky
dog and another great Operation Baghdad Pups success! Toby, a six month old yellow lab mix, recently made it to Houston after making a long trip from Iraq. His journey from overseas to the Bayou City includes a heartwarming gesture by U.S. troops and lots of challenges for Operation Baghdad Pups and Red Collar Rescue of Houston. Exclusive report from Operation Baghdad Pups Program Manager, Terri Crisp, who is currently in Arbil, Iraq, coordinating the rescue of more than 30 U.S. soldiers' pets.
Since the Operation Baghdad Pups team arrived in Kuwait last week we have been faced with some major challenges. We learned shortly after arriving that Gryphon Airlines, who we fly in and out of Iraq with, had their flights into Baghdad suspended by the Iraqi government.
